about me
Michael is a Business Development Manager at Flashpoint Therapeutics where he leverages more than a decade of nanotechnology experience to drive the development of curative therapeutics for cancer and other diseases.
Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Houston. During this time, he served as ‘President’ of the Biomedical Engineering Society where he was nominated for ‘Presidential Excellence’ and led the organization to being recognized as the ‘Organization of the Year’. Michael received his Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. His research involved the study and development of cancer immunotherapies and gene regulating therapies. While pursuing his research, Michael was selected to participate in Regeneron’s Prize for Creative Innovation and Merck Group’s Innovation Cup.
Michael previously worked with the Department of Nanomedicine at the Houston Methodist Hospital where he researched and developed drug delivery systems for use in the treatment of cancer. Using strategies inspired by nature, Michael helped develop biomaterials using nanotechnology. Michael has also worked with various other materials including silica, polymers, liposomes, and lipid nanoparticles.
Currently, Michael has over fifty scientific publications spanning a variety of journals including Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Biomedical Engineering, and more. Michael has received a variety of awards such as the Onassis Foundation Scholarship, the International Institute for Nanotechnology’s Outstanding Researcher Award, and has been recognized as a ‘Forty under 40’ honoree by the Greek America Foundation.
Michael is currently interested in continuing his work to bring cutting-edge technologies to the clinic for the treatment of life-threatening diseases.
